Mortal Kombat 11 Brings Spawn To The Roster

Could there be an even better addition to Mortal Kombat 11 than Spawn? Doubtful, unless Bananaman gets a reboot. Out on the 17th March for Kombat Pack owners.

It’s been some time since I played Mortal Kombat 11, from NetherRealm Studios, on the PS4 and despite some fan favourites like Shao Khan and the Terminator T-800, picking up the DLC hasn’t been the priority. That is until word got out that comic book favourite Spawn has been enlisted into the ranks.

If you’re unfamiliar with Spawn, he was (and still is) the ultimate badass. A little origin story… Al Simmons was a decorated soldier who carried out assassination missions for the government until he is betrayed by a friend and teammate and assassinated.

Due to his choice of profession, he is sent to hell. In his stay there, he makes a deal with the devil to get one last chance to see his wife. The devil agrees as long as he serves as hellspawn, commanding the hordes of hell. When he returns to the land of the living, he’s wiped of his memory and after a few paths of ‘finding himself’ evolves into an anti-hero, taking out wrong ‘uns. So remember kids:

Don’t do deals with the devil.

Spawn is practically immortal and has insane powers such as super strength, teleportation, resurrect the dead, breath fire… as you’re guessing, he’s completely out there. The only way you can destroy him is by beheading him or, if he uses up all his powers, he’ll return to hell to meet up with ol’ Nick once more.

Designed by Todd McFarlane – the same chap who created Venom (the Marvel character), he came out in the early 90s in comic book form, had a animated series (my introduction to the character) as well as the live-action film which flopped, but I enjoyed it; it had a great soundtrack too!

Well, the same fellow who did the voice for Spawn in the animation is the same for the game: Keith David. A legend in the world of voice acting, but also for John Carpenter fans such as myself in the brilliant, if a little literal, They Live. Anyway, this ‘news piece’ is turning more into a feature and lecture on Spawn.

The skinny is, Spawn will be out on the 17th March for owners of the Kombat Pack on Mortal Kombat 11, and on the 24th for all us lesser mininons. Considering that the Kombat Pack features six downloadable characters, it might be worth your pocket money getting it now rather than later.

  • Who’s in it?
  • Spawn
  • The Joker
  • Sindel
  • Terminator T-800
  • Nightwolf
  • Shang Tsung

Alternatively, you can purchase individual characters separately. The bottom line is, Spawn is coming to Mortal Kombat 11 so stop faffing about and check out the gameplay trailer below!
