I guarantee that it’ll take me longer to write this Truck Driving review than it took to finish the game. A title kindly provided via Ultimate Games, seeing only a thumbnail and half of the title, encouraged me to give it a chance and not to cherry-pick. I’ve ballsed up in kindness many times, giving lots of titles a look, giving the dev a boost, and adding another game I’ll never play to my ridiculous collection, and finding them… unremarkable. Considering it took less than an hour to finish and unlock everything, this might be one of those games.
Yet, Truck Driving isn’t terrible. Jumping straight in, I have to drive my Day of the Dead flatbed truck 20 metres to the finish line. A tutorial, perhaps, and maybe there’ll be a handful until the game kicks in. At stage 10, taking less than 10 minutes to get there, it’s the same straight lines, or turning one or two corners. Backing out of the menu, I have a peek at other options. There are three trucks to purchase (money awarded after each track), and a day or night course.
You can’t play the night stages until you finish the day stages, but there’s no indication of how many stages there are, as you can’t scroll through. With teeth-grinding music that I had to turn off, I looked on the publisher’s website and even Nintendo to see how many stages there are, though nothing is listed besides saying the game is about dropping off your cargo at each destination. Euro Truck Simulator 2, this ain’t – there are no deliveries to be made (the starting vehicle has zero cargo), so I bear with it and notice it’s gone dark.

Exiting to the menu again, I seem to have unlocked the night stages. So, there are about 50 stages in total. Earning money can only be spent on vehicles, so I bought the biggest and it’s too slow. I then buy the other one, and it rolls. Back to the starting vehicle and time to churn this out. And, not long after wondering why I downloaded Truck Driving, it’s over. After the last stage, it jumps back to the menu with nothing extra to do besides uninstalling it.
Truck Driving is so easy, it’s clear I’m not the target audience. My dog would struggle, only because she doesn’t have opposable thumbs, but she’d get the idea. While Truck Driving is totally not for me, I’m not going to dump (truck) on it from a great height, as I know a lot of kids who would absolutely love this, and it would be perfect for their needs/interests. Just look at the tosh on Roblox, but see how happy the little ankle biters are. So, if you like trucks, either do your HGV license test or get Euro Truck Simulator 2. If you have kids and they like trucks, show them the video.
