Castle Flipper Preview: My Kingdom For Some More Time

Ready to make medieval bank? An early look at the Castle Flipper demo.

played. Clocking in around 16 minutes, and that’s after reading all the tool-tips and going the extra mile at the end of the demo, it’s definitely teaser territory.

So, what is Castle Flipper? If you’re expecting a generic response to that, wrong website. However, I will say that this is a medieval version of House Flipper. As lazy as that comparison is, it’s very accurate.

Much like its predecessor, in Castle Flipper you are tasked with cleaning up and repairing the wealthy folks’ abodes. Pick up barrels and hay, then cart planks of wood to fill in the gaps on a walkway. The demo introduces ladders, too, but it’s not a highlight, just a note.

You’re awarded lands of your own, but you have to complete a task to learn your skills before you can get to work on it. That’s right – cleaning! Armed with a broom, you can sweep up the dirt(!) to rid it of bloodstains and automatically dispose of debris by clicking on it.

In House Flipper, we had the radar that would indicate dirt spots, but in Castle Flipper, you have a scanner of sorts. Press the Z key, and it scans the nearby area for any rubbish to bin. It’s a bit futuristic, but it’s a big help as the colour palette is naturally earthy, so it’s hard to see some items from a distance as it’s mostly wood and mud.

Going with the medieval theme, you can locate chests and swipe the loot to invest in your property, which shows a bit of promise. Instead of inheriting a building, you physically construct it. That means from the foundations up, windows, roof and doors. It’s super easy, too, and not remotely laborious, adding to the charm of Pyramid Games and Gaming Factory’s previous title.

There are also hotkeys now for building items, which improves workflow instead of going to the ‘verb wheel’ each time. It’s a great addition and makes for an easy-to-play title. Unfortunately, it’s just so short. To counter that, it’s not long until the game is out, so rather than rabbit on, download the demo yourself and wishlist it accordingly.
