It didn’t take long to fall in love with Majros, our milky protagonist in A Trail of Ooze. Insanto Studios will determine how long the intro lasts until the first bit of dialogue. That’s when I was hooked.
Majros’ hooman has been kidnapped, as seen in the cinematic. I now know that it was at gunpoint, no less, and that ooze from the title? Not milk. Anyways, Majros will gather some clues and go to the rescue.
Fully voice-acted, A Trail of Ooze is immediately on par with something like Day of the Tentacle. The reason I use that example isn’t just because it’s a bona fide classic, but the art style is brilliant – our hero’s eyes almost resemble Laverne from DOTT. Even better is the voice acting.

I loved Majros’ Scandinavian tones. When it’s your natural accent and normal to you, it may seem irritating or patronising, like how my American friends used to have me say funny words like vitamin because they were ‘cute’. I use this affectionately. Despite her sarcasm, she’s a lovable ol’ cow. She’s real, alright?
Anyway: relevance. We begin by investigating the crime scene and getting to know the residents. There are only a few at this time, and since the game isn’t expected to be released until late 2023, we’ll have to be patient. Judging on the quality thus far, it’ll be worth the wait.
So, without a deerstalker, Majros reverse-engineers the series of events on the farm: the tire tracks, driver ID, and ever-present ooze of the title. It transpires that there’s something she needs to seek out in the cornfield, fortunately not horror-related (unless you also can’t dance), so she has to solve a couple of puzzles to learn the skills from a suave veggie.

A Trail of Ooze is only a teeny bit of the game, what with it being a demo. Still, there’s plenty of self-aware humour, smug nods to the aforementioned DOTT, and having some of the most bizarre inventory combinations. The name for said ‘infusion’ was fully aware of how illogical it was.
As mentioned earlier on, this gave me the feels of DOTT before collecting the item in the game, yet it’s a story that stands on its own two feet, as does Majros. There’s nothing weird about the way she stands. A quick summary, but I insist that you download this demo now and fuse with your fellow fundraising Power Ranger friends to help Maria finish painting the kitchen.
Have a look for yourself, and perhaps write your own collection of words, as A Trail of Ooze is available to play on Steam as a demo right now.
