Pizzapocalypse 2 might be the sickest demo you play this month, and how sick depends on your personal preferences. If your stance on Hawaiian pizza is that of ‘an abomination’, you’ll find it pretty sick that you have to collect pineapples for something nefarious. Or maybe it’s pizza in a can?
If hygiene is your thing, wielding a pizza as a weapon and ninja device might make your stomach churn. For those wanting a decent 3D platformer, however, this game is pretty sick, a.k.a. rad, bodacious, gnarly – and all those other things the kids say. The pizza dough being flung about is grim, but for me, the sickest part was the gameplay.
You play an Italian stereotype without a plunger, collecting pizza ingredients to presumably put on a pizza, or, more likely, for high scores. I don’t quite get the plot beyond a dodgy corporation that puts pizza in a can and sends out drones to deliver it, but before you get to that, you’re jumping out of a plane.

Bright, Colourful, and Begging to Be Explored
Pizzapocalypse 2 is bright and colourful, with a very inviting world that screams – explore me. Though it’s not an open-world title, our hero can sniff around for a cheeky pineapple, collectable, or additional ingredients. The latter serves for points, one assumes, as there’s only one level in the demo. There are no vendors to trade your tomatoes in for a knuckle duster.
Not that you need any weapons, as the pizza serves as your ninja tool for jumping higher, ascending walls, gliding, and slapping into the faces of ugly robots trying to take away your business. A comparison I’d like to make would be Mario Odyssey. That’ll make the Nintendo fans mad.
But seriously, aside from the short, fat Italians with enviable upper lip hair growth, it handles very much like Mario and Cappy. Or in this case, Doughy? The cameras follow the action, and you can swing them about too. Again, similar to the Nintendo counterpart, and I’d say they’re reliable. There wasn’t a moment where I got frustrated with the angles. Then again, it was all over in less than 30 minutes.

Wait, There Was a Pizzapocalypse 1?
If anything, I was more frustrated with the title, as it’s called Pizzapocalypse 2. That would indicate there is a game preceding it that I’ve never heard of. Monkey Strike Games made that a couple of years ago (in 12 weeks!), so by all means, check that out, too. However, the demo is currently up for grabs for this sequel, and I recommend that you do.
So yeah, ‘a bit like Mario Odyssey‘, which is high praise. Check it out for yourself, ask for it by name, and for the record, Hawaiian pizza isn’t an abomination. The Pizzapocalypse 2 demo is available on Steam as of now.
