Tales of Kenzera: ZAU – Metroidvania Coming Of Age Story Out Now

Coming of age Metroidvania Tales of Kenzera: ZAU gets a release date - wait - it's already out!

Correct me if I’m wrong (don’t), but hasn’t the Tales of Kenzera: ZAU release been a bit low-key? I’d seen this before, thought it was a great concept, and was looking forward to when it got a release date. Guess what? It’s already out.

Perhaps that’s because the game is an EA title. They don’t need to let the small fry know about their games – they’re already a household name, and it’s probably pasted on store home pages (I’ve not seen it). Still, Surgent Studio’s coming-of-age story needs some attention.

Inspired by Bantu culture, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is a Metroidvania journey ‘exploring the resonant love between a father and son, self-discovery, resilience and finding courage within oneself after loss’. Wow. There’s so much invested in this story that there’s an accompanying video, My Shoes, Your Feet – produced in partnership with Ridley Scott Creative Group!

Video games are an incredible storytelling medium that have the power to transport players to new realms and evoke powerful emotions through both new and familiar experiences; bringing Zau’s story to life made me feel closer to my late father, and honoring our memories together through this powerful medium has been an absolute blessing. We’re so thrilled to finally share Tales of Kenzera: ZAU with the world and hope that players will find as much inspiration, excitement and healing in the game as we did in bringing it to life.
