As a glutton for punishment, I was a big fan of Nioh and despite the ridiculous amounts of hours invested in it, only scratched the surface when it comes to the ghastly endgame bosses. Well, time to put it down and move on to Nioh 2 The Complete Edition, coming to Steam in February.
A Souls-like action-adventure with RPG elements, Nioh 2 The Complete Edition, from Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo Games, takes place during the Sengoku era (fellow gaming nerds will be oh-so-familiar with the period), as you play a half-human/half-yokai custom character.
Initially a merc for hire that succumbs to the darkness, a Spirit Stone merchant heals you and makes you tolerable again. Searching for the next Spirit Stone buyer, they encounter Nobunaga Oda once more, ‘raising the curtain on the tale of Hideyoshi’ – no doubt reference to Oda’s successor, Toyotomi.
Nioh 2 The Complete Edition follows on from the primary campaign with the DLC expansion packs The Tengu’s Disciple, Darkness in the Capital and The First Samurai – as mentioned, finishing the base game for the first Nioh was just the beginning.
There are 16 different weapon types in and include the following:
- Dual Swords
- Axes & Hammers
- Hand Cannons
- Yokai Weapons
- Blessed Weapon
The weapon choice was one of the very many highlights in Nioh, each weapon genuinely feeling different than one another – the kusarigama was a particular favourite of mine.
Nioh 2 The Complete Edition is coming to Steam in February 2021. You can pre-order now, so head over to the respective page for more details.
