Masters Of The Universe Revelation: Grayskull Gets A Makeover

He-Man get's a makeover with Kevin Smith at the helm; two-parter Masters Of The Universe Revelation showcases the final battle, coming to Netflix in July 2021.

Masters Of The Universe Revelation is coming to Netflix on the 23rd of July? This is when the YouTube algorithm works – you get notified about stuff you actually want to see.

Back in the 80s, He-Man was the hero. Later on, it became clear that his little bob wasn’t so heroic and that perhaps, Skeletor – a ripped skeleton with a legion of thugs that could piss all over Man-At-Arms and Orko, really should have won.

It didn’t matter. He-Man was the best.

Masters Of The Universe Revelation Beamed Straight To Your TV

Now, alarmingly 40 years later (I’m not that old!?!), Masters Of The Universe Revelation gets released on Netflix. Not knowing a single thing about it, other than watching the trailer gave me a fever, it became clear that Kevin Smith is one of the producers – correction: the creator.

First fact: it’s a TV series, not a one-off like Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling – still bitter that there’s nothing else on the horizon, but may have possibly seen this 50+ times. Legit.

It’s produced by Powerhouse Animation Studio – the same one behind Castlevania. Despite it’s acclaim, I lost interest around season 2, and even though it has a decent cast, there’s something about the animation style that put me off.

Familiarities can be drawn on the art style, but correct me if I’m wrong; Masters Of The Universe Revelation looks a tad more ‘bigger budget’, hence why initial thoughts were this could be a one-off.

In truth, Masters Of The Universe Revelation is a two-parter that tells of the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor. Perhaps fan service for all of those waiting all these years for a reboot that didn’t feature Dolph Lungren or an animated ponytail. Could it be that one of them is killed off?

Hearing Voices

Let’s hope it’s not Skeletor played by… Mark Hamill. A handful of people might know him as that laser sword guy in Star Trek, but aside from his indie sci-fi stuff, he’s arguably one of the best voice actors around – one of the best Joker’s, but he played a pivotal role in Full Throttle. He’s perfectly cast.

But reading through the cast list on IMDB is every middle-aged chump’s wet dream. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alicia Silverstone, Liam Cunningham and Lena Headey, View Askew favourite, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith and perhaps not so much a headliner for most, but one of my heroes, Henry Rollins.

Seriously, watching the trailer has been the best start to a Friday. Watch the Masters Of The Universe Revelation teaser below:

That’s it for now as it’s a random post without much thought, other than an overexcited man-child expecting to reliving his childhood and digging out the figures to <ahem> look at them once more. Perhaps I’ll stick with this new category of anime/cartoons?

Masters Of The Universe Revelation is on Netflix from the 23rd July 2021.
